Golden Hornet's String Quartet Smackdown is a bracketed, NCAA basketball tournament style competition which brings original string quartet compositions head-to-dead in front of a live, participatory audience.
This album comprises sixteen quartets that were selected as finalists for the seventh annual concert, held in March 2021. The audience determined the champion to be Jimena Palma de Gyvés, and all finalists received studio recordings of their works.
Entrance and participation in String Quartet Smackdown is totally free and open. Purchases of this album support the continued realization of this program which supports emerging composers from diverse backgrounds worldwide.
